Disruption Ahead For Video

In the February issue of How To Find Big Stocks, we highlighted a company that had the potential to disrupt any entity that either plays a video ON or THRU the Net.

Yesterday they followed through on that potential and announced the successful testing of cross platform streaming video prototype:

other solutions require video files to be transcoded into a variety of formats and require different streaming servers to host each version of the video.

When a visitor reaches the site, the web server must detect the type of smart phone or operating system, then direct them to the corresponding streaming server and the corresponding file. These streaming servers are often outsourced off site to third party providers at great cost.  Each of those servers needs to be maintained, licenses have to be purchased and patent fees have to be paid.

Although the process is seamless to the site visitor, behind the scenes, the digital alchemy is expected to cost the industry up to $1.6 billion annually by 2014 according to a 2007 report by Frost and Sullivan

"Do Not Track" Should Be "Do Not Read" Too

President Obama and many others are missing the big picture when it comes to privacy. It's more than tracking you when you surf the Net.

The content sent in email or Facebook messages contains far more personal info than your surfing. Yet nobody seems to have a problem that the info in messages can, and is being used to target ads.

Do Not Track should include Do Not Read as well.

When you use a service like Facebook or Gmail the content on or in their service belongs to them, not you.

Take a look at your emails or Facebook messages and ask yourself if you want an advertiser to be reading them..they already are.

Last week a father attacked Target for sending his teenage daughter baby furniture coupons. Target used the girl's credit card info to determine she was pregnant.

Ovum reported that the cell industry lost billions of dollars in revenue due to social messaging applications.

Here's a double whammy soon to be released. A social messaging app that does not share in ANY way the content in the messages. In fact the content can be erased on command.

Cell providers will still continue to lose revenue from limited SMS and services like Facebook will not be able to sell the data in those messages to advertisers. This is definitely a game changer.

Obama promises privacy legislation.
The Obama administration plans to work with Congress to enact legislation to protect peoples' online privacy based on a Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights being unveiled tomorrow.

At the same time, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, and AOL are committing to work with Do Not Track technology in most major Web browsers so people can stop companies from tracking them as they bounce around the Internet, the administration said in a statement

Web firms agree to support "Do Not Track"

The new do-not-track button isn't going to stop all Web tracking. The companies have agreed to stop using the data about people's Web browsing habits to customize ads, and have agreed not to use the data for employment, credit, health-care or insurance purposes. But the data can still be used for some purposes such as "market research" and "product development" and can still be obtained by law enforcement officers.

The do-not-track button also wouldn't block companies such as Facebook Inc. from tracking their members through "Like" buttons and other functions

This month is our newsletter, we highlight patented technology,  that eliminates ANY 3rd party from seeing ANY of the content you share with other users over the Net.

Privacy is a wave we highlighted in our book, How To Find Big Stocks. We found (using the tool in the book) several companies with a competitive advantage in this wave.

The "Spectrum Crunch" And A Powerball Lottery Stock Pick

This week CNN Money is running a series titled "The Spectrum Crunch". Essentially it discusses the cellphone capacity crunch.  (How timely for us when we just highlighted a pure play on this problem).

"Wireless operators have to decide whether they spend money acquiring new spectrum or building tens of thousands of new cell sites all over the country," says Dan Hays, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers' consultancy. "That's the big dilemma."

What we saw years ago is now being discovered by mainstream media, but you have the chance to participate.

We discovered a company which we called the "Wireless Wonder". Their patent Patent # 6,680,923 titled "Communication system and method which covers the seamless roaming of voice, video and data between Wide Area Network access points such as cellular towers (GSM/GPRS/EDGE, CDMA, WCMDA etc) and short range Internet access points (such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc.) has the ability to be a 100 bagger investment.

One of the most respected analysts interviewed in the CNN article, happened to be at this company's latest shareholder meeting acknowledging how valuable the space and patent could be.

A Delaware court determined that management wasn't capable of running the company and designated a receiver to liquidate the company (basically sell the patent).

We are calling this company a Powerball Lottery Ticket in our latest newsletter. They company is currently valued at $4m. Technology experts have said the patent could be worth between $100m to $1B.

It is probably one of riskiest crapshoots you will find, but you go into it with the same attitude as the lottery.."what if?".

We think the stock gets halted for trading soon because the judge basically said, liquidate this company.

The How To Find Big Stocks Newsletter summarizes what this company has and why it could be like winning the Powerball.

The How To Find Big Stocks Newsletter Launches

In the book How To Find Big Stocks, we show how to spot trends and the companies that will be big in them.

We received plenty of emails asking what stocks we liked so the obvious thing to do was share what waves we are following and highlight companies in them with a newsletter. How To Find Big Stocks Newsletter

The newsletter ($14.99/month) identifies breakthrough technologies, investing trends and the companies with a competitive advantage in them. (this is the same info we share with some of the top hedge funds)

Last month we highlighted 3 companies, 1 is still up 200% and another is up 50%. Not bad for the first month. These are companies completely hidden from Wall St. (we are not compensated by ANY companies we highlight)

This month we highlight 2 companies:

1. Is probably the most disruptive company we have seen in a long time. Disrupts SEVERAL industries with 2 types of technology

2. Is what I call a Powerball Play. One of those plays that is so big and so risky you have to throw a couple dollars at it.

If you liked the book, you will love the newsletter.

Justice Department To Beef Up IP Enforcement Team

Digital rights, an investing wave we are following closely, is about to get more help from the U.S. Govt.

We identified a company with the competitive advantage in this huge wave.

From Reuters : Justice Dept  boosts agents to tackle copyright infringement and counterfeiting

The Obama administration on Monday proposed hiring more prosecutors to pursue intellectual property crimes in the new budget as the entertainment industry pressures the Justice Department to crack down on copyright infringement and counterfeiting.

Deputy Attorney General James Cole told reporters. "We think this is an area that really needs some focus and some efforts and increases in the future."

We see this being a much bigger issue than theft of movies and music....

Now imagine if you had the technology (and patents) that could "track back source of any pirated content" AND "lock content so it will only play on the authorized device"

This company is so trusted, nearly EVERY record label has implemented their patented technology. This same technology can be used for EVERY type of digital content and is still hidden from Wall St.

We discovered this company using the tool in the book How To Find Big Stocks

If At First You Don't Sell Your Patent Portfolio...

InterDigital failed to sell its patent portfolio, so it has started to looking to emerging wireless bands to boost its technology research.

I have talked at length about the opportunity in white space.

(a new keyword to watch)
a system to extend Wi-Fi into new bands using a technology called Integrated Dynamic Spectrum Management (IDSM), which harvests vacant frequencies to increase the data throughput of WLans by identifying uncongested channels. (source RethinkWireless)

Although it was tapping into the interest in white spaces, IDSM can work across many contiguous and non-contiguous frequencies, licensed or unlicensed.

Just another reason why the ability to switch across frequencies seamlessly, and the patent for it, will be so valuable in the future.

The "Oil" Of the Digital Age

Privacy is one of the investing trends I have said to watch.

In my book (How To Find Big Stocks), I devote an entire chapter to why privacy (and companies that protect it) will offer some exciting investing opportunities.

Every email, text, picture, Facebook (post/comment/picture) that is transmitted when "send" is hit..is stored on a server.

The average user has 736 pieces of this personal data collected every day, and different service providers retain this information for anywhere between 12 and 60 months.

While that might not make a difference today, it might in the future.

"personal data is the oil of the digital age".

From NY Times
Start-Ups Seek to Help Users Put a Price on Their Personal Data

People have been willing to give away their data while the companies make money. But there is some momentum for the idea that personal data could function as a kind of online currency, to be cashed in directly or exchanged for other items of value.

Google's Drive Threatens Dropbox

For a stock to be a Big Stock,  it MUST have a competitive advantage.

I call these companies "Me toos". If any company can enter a space this easily, you don't have a competitive advantage.

There are other companies that have a competitive advantage in the cloud computing wave, find out how to spot them (How To Find Big Stocks)

From Wall St Journal Google Near Launch of Cloud Service

The Google service, which is expected to launch in the coming weeks or months, will be free for most consumers and businesses
Like Dropbox, Google's storage service, called Drive, is a response to the growth of Internet-connected mobile devices like smartphones and tablets and the rise of "cloud computing," or storing files online so that they can be retrieved from multiple devices, these people said

Drive allows people to store photos, documents and videos on Google's servers so that they could be accessible from any Web-connected device and allows them to easily share the files with others, these people said. If a person wants to email a video shot from a smartphone, for instance, he can upload it to the Web through the Drive mobile app and email people a link to the video rather than a bulky file.

I Took Her Breath Away Twice

A Triathlete Races For Love
                                book website

"Every girl dreams about how she will be proposed to and her wedding day. I took her breath away twice and gave her a story that is a special as she is."

A long distance triathlete (140.6 miles) overcomes life's obstacles to plan a surprise marriage proposal and wedding day for his special girl.

For eight years I have traveled the world competing in various IronMan triathlon races. Through this sport, I have learned how to approach the obstacles life throws at you.

I was lucky to have my soul mate with me through the roughest times (both on the race course and in life).

For the past year, I planned on surprising Pnut with a proposal and marriage at two locations that would allow ALL members of our families (both living and deceased) to commemorate this special journey.

Both IronMan Germany (European World Championship) and the 70.3 World Championship in Vegas were the locations where I took my soul mate's breath away twice.

 (excerpt from the book)
I only told a handful of people that we would be getting married that day. Some may say it was a private wedding.

I like to think we shared this special day with 1600 of our closest friends, namely some of the best athletes in the world and their special needs partners. We all know what it’s like to overcome obstacles in life just by focusing on the next mile marker.

Reader Testimonials:

"Probably the most romantic thing I have ever read"
