Yahoo! UK Mobile Offers Price Compare

From NetImperative.com Yahoo! launches mobile price check

Yahoo! UK and Ireland has launched a new mobile service which allows consumers to check prices on the move, using Yahoo! WAP services.

Price and product information will be provided by the Yahoo-owned comparison service Kelkoo. Yahoo! said it will not charge for the service, which is accessible on all WAP enabled phones at standard browsing rates.

The new service will cover 3 million product offers and more than 5000 UK retailers

The site can be viewed at http://wap.yahoo.co.uk click on "products".

Dorothea Arndt, director of search and distribution at Kelkoo said: “Mobile price comparison is a major step towards aligning the on and offline shopping experience and brings us significantly closer to achieving our mission of making shopping simple for everyone.”

Offline shopping should provide something that online can't, interaction with the product.

Maybe it's me, but I just don't see price comparison via cell phone that desireable. Anything expensive I plan on buying, I won't be impulse buying. So why the urgency to get a price comparison on the phone?

I see this as ANOTHER example of PC content being offered as a mobile application without thinking about the mobile users wishes.
