Microsoft Hooks Up With Alien For RFID

The RFID picture is getting clearer.

From BusinessWire.com Alien Technology announces alliance with Microsoft on RFID initiatives

MORGAN HILL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 5, 2005--Alien Technology today announced an alliance with Microsoft that establishes Alien(R) as one of the key partners in Microsoft's RFID Initiatives whereby Alien RFID reader and tag products will be supported by Microsoft's RFID technology.

Alien also announced that Microsoft selected Alien tags and European-compliant high powered ALR-8780 readers as one of the readers to demonstrate its RFID technology at the Microsoft TechEd EMEA conference this week in Amsterdam

When I suggested Microsoft could be creating an RFID browser, it didn't get much reaction.

Another way to look at this. Imagine that every RFID tag is a URL with a lot more data, and then realize why Microsoft will want to own this market.
