PDAs Mobiles And GPS

From Yahoo Business.com Cell Phones and PDAs .

MINNETONKA, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 2005--Aside from commercial or marine applications, most global positioning systems (GPS) are installed in cars--helping people get from point A to B while driving. But a new breed of navigation systems is about to change this as millions of consumers will soon get driving directions via their cell phone or PDA.

What is a necessity for this to work? There is one key component for implementation.

doesn't neomedia own a patent for this sort of thing, or is it just point advertising via gps? You don't talk about them much. Why is that?

eh...seemless signal handover? I mean wi-fi, wimax and 3g etc. have to work complementary to eachother in order to fill the coverage gaps. 3G costs in Europe are very expensive so wi-fi is a must on mobile phones for europeans to connect to the internet for navigation, IM, etc. and 3G just for filling the gaps, but rather not for too long...
