Barcode To Internet Patents Get Auctioned

Just when you thought the barcode to Internet patent mess couldn't get any messier.

From ARS Technica First live patent auction

What was on the block? The 68 lots included patents on such diverse technologies as flash memory, methods for using a cell phone for reading barcodes and connecting them to web sites, a fat substitue for use in foods, and a system for shooting 3D video.

Identities of the buyers have not been disclosed, and probably won’t be made public.

Many large companies were present to observe or bid at the auction, among them GE, Dupont, Microsoft, and AT&T.

Look for more of this patent auction activity as we see the New American Business Model

Expect more companies to be added to the physical world connection list when appropriate.
