Nice...but with all these different 2d codes 'out there' one will want/need an effective universal code reader, unless just one 2D code becomes the standard, which seems unlikely at this point. How many 2D codes are there anyway? As an aside, I see that Symbol Tech will be at CTIA next week in LA...could they unvail something like a universal barcode reader and enter the PWC ring? Just pondering like you.

I expect a couple companies to announce their entrance into the PWC space next week at CTIA.

One of them is big enough that most brands should migrate to their platform.

The key thing to remember though, just because you announce you CAN connect a physical world hyperlink, doesn't mean anybody will.

Introducing this application will have to be done by a major player if it stands to get any traction.

An analogy I could use.

NASA announcing a shuttle liftoff on Friday, and I announce I am shooting off bottlerockets in my backyard.

It all depends on how big the launch is and what you're launching.

I agree a universal code reader would be nice, however it is not needed.

This existed from a long time. SemaCode [http://www.semacode.org/] allows you to do the same. but they rather call it A Physical Tag.

David slew Goliath...so isn't it possible that creativity could trump size? Hey, isn't creativity your stock in trade at VI? A free universal qode, excuse me :-) code reader coupled with a creative, viral download campaign could be successful I think. Gotta have a lot more of the capable phones out there first before that can happen, at least here in the USA. Thanks for your insights and info links BTW even if I don't always agree with your take on the situation.
